Language of Symbols

The paintings of Fernand Nonkouni are inspired by the rich and diverse African symbols. The Adinkra symbols from Ghana, the Dogon pictograms from Mali, the mouse sign Bagre from Burkina Faso are of universal language and are translated into his art. The works presented in this exhibition are new steps in his creations. Fernand Nonkouni was born in 1968 in Ivory Coast. After practising calligraphy and decoration, he started to paint in 1994, for the Ouag’Art session at the French Cultural Centre in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
