Fernand NONKOUNI
Fernand Nonkouni was born in 1968 in Ivory Coast. He practised his art with several painters from Africa and Europe. In 1995 he spent nine months in Kansas City, United States, for an exhibition with the Olorun Foundation (Burkina Faso). This work included a training program directed to the youth of poor areas of the city. It was recognized as a success.
Among other activities, he realized in 1998 an itinerant monumental installation in the South of France, in collaboration with a French photographer. In 1999 he did a performance and exhibition at the Schwab Museum of Archeology, in Bienne (Switzerland), and also worked with the Swiss Commission of Fine Arts.
Fernand Nonkouni won an award from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation (New York) in 1998. He has done a number of exhibitions in Burkina Faso, Senegal, Ivory Coast, and also France, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Holland, USA. He now lives and works in Accra (Ghana), where he has participated in several events and exhibitions, including a support to young painters from his country, Burkina Faso. His work also aims at creating links between African artists. He has a permanent collection at the World Bank head office (Washington DC), at the French Embassy and European Commission (Ouagadougou), at the Central Bank of West Africa (Dakar).
